Rilke wrote to Werfel in 1913 after reading Werfel's first 2 books of poems, Der Weltfreund and Wir sind. They met for the first time in the same year. Ruth Siebe-Rilke was the daughter of Rilke and Clara Westhoff; here she signs her name Ruth Fritzsche-Rilke. As a result of the success of his Broadway musical Lady in the dark in 1941, German-born composer Kurt Weill and his wife, the singing actress Lotte Lenya, were able to buy "Brook House," in Rockland County, New York, moving there during their sixth year in the United States.
